Howdy!

I came to photography like most of us photographer folk do- through the love of beauty and the practice of taking pictures as a hobby. Looking at life through a lens is different than how we observe it with our eyes. Snapping a still shot of birthday poppers firing into the air while old friends’ faces shine in smiling excitement (and doing it on behalf of a special person who may not even know what they’ve just walked in to) is a little bit of modern day magic. Our lives shoot by and one day they’re done. Photography brings our life back to us. It helps us remember the places we’ve been; the friends we’ve known. Photography reveals worlds of wonder with each frame. Photography shares microscopic moments of individual existence with humanity. Whether I’m photographing flowers, bugs, or people- the final product is intended for people. I take photos because for one reason or another, I hope that someone somewhere will see the frame I’ve captured, and their thoughts will linger for half a beat on whatever it is that is in that rectangle. Our society runs on pictures. I’m just one more person with a camera.

A Few Things About Me

I used to play clarinet

I grew up obsessed with learning about culture, collecting pretty things, reading fantastical books, and ended up studying English literature at college. At heart, I am just a little artsy kid who grew up. I appreciate drama, expression, story telling, and catchily composed pictures.

I taught myself photography

My photographic journey begins well before I bought my camera, and I've been operating my Fujifilm XT3 since 2019. My heart lies with nature photography and pictures of my family, but my creative eye is drawn to people. We are very interesting things.

If there is an animal at our shoot, I will momentarily be more interested in it than you.

Sorry. It is what it is. I promise, I'll get back to focusing on you but I'm gonna get a snapshot of that kitty cat or rabbit or turtle or frog or deer or whatever.

I am still learning

I am, possibly forever, a student photographer. Every photo session is a new experience. Every face is unique. Your session is its own event, and that's why I know we'll get pictures as individual as you. Because there is only one you.
